Tasmanian Aboriginal.com - Latest News - Aboriginal Remains & The TAC/Nala Mansell Rants
This article is in relation to the Aboriginal Remains found dating back 6-8 years or thereabouts. Now, I personally have some opinions on this and they are as listed below: 1) Aboriginal remains look no different to that of any other, so forensic testing is needed to determine the nature of the remains and who/where they were from. For all they knew, they could have been remains from one of the 200 people or so that go missing in Australia every year without a trace. Could've even been from Harry Holt? No one knows, with out forensic testing, and that is protocol. Secondly, Statements from Nala mansell in regards to breaches of law are unfounded, as this is relative to my previous notes above, relating to not knowing the nature of the remains, so forensic testing is needed. Now, once remains are determined to be aboriginal, they can be handed to ANY Corporation, and do not have to go to the TAC exclusively. Now, my other issue is the rants about delivery of said remains... They were delivered in a brown paper bag, but believe it or not, this is actually the norm for said material of which I have been advised. I do ask the question though, how did she expect the remains would be delivered? I mean, there are only limited options to actually house these remains in right? Do they send them express post in a padded envelope?... Anyways, It's a contentious issue and I thought it'd be worth noting at any rate. I have spoken to other Mobs and people in regards to this, and we understand the rants from Nala are just that, with very little factual basis and untruths about how this was handled by Tas Police etc etc.
Here's Nalas Rant!: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-07/aboriginal-remains-put-in-paper-bag-given-to-tac/103812138
Here is the Coroners Act of 1995, of which relates to this case: https://www.legislation.tas.gov.au/view/html/inforce/current/act-1995-073#GS23@EN
I find it absolutely piss-poor that the ABC would only post a baseless one side of the argument story...
